Widely hailed as the founding fathers of funk, The Meters laid down the blueprint for groove-heavy music that still echoes through hip-hop, rock, and soul today. One of New Orleans greatest bands was The Meters, which put the Big Easy on the map as a funk and R&B capital in the 1960s and '70s. The group began as an instrumental quartet, cutting eight studio albums between 1969 and 1977. Although they were never officially captured live on record during that time, in 1981 after the group had split, an obscure label called REG Associates released an LP called At Rozy's which presented a performance supposedly taped at a New Orleans nightclub in December 1976. Recent research, however, reveals that the concert was recorded the previous year at a different venue: San Francisco's prestigious The Great American Music Hall. Newly remastered from the original ¼"master tapes, the performance-including material not heard before-is now presented in full for the first time. It captures The Meters in their prime, giving the listener a front-row seat to witness up close one of the most dynamic funk and soul bands ever. The vibrant musical scene of the 1960s in Colombia owes much to a group of versatile accordionists who blended genres such as cumbia, charanga, guaracha, vallenato, and Cuban-influenced rhythms. This group included notable figures like Andrés Landero, Aníbal Velásquez, Lisandro Meza, and Alfredo Gutiérrez, among others.
A prime example of their diverse musical styles is the album “Dame café”, released in November 1965, which features a mix of traditional rhythms like vallenato and cumbia, alongside more experimental beats such as paseaíto and pasaje. The album includes six previously released singles composed by José Castro, Policarpo Calle, and others. The album highlights the commercial strategy of Discos Fuentes, which often created short-lived studio bands to meet the tropical music demand of the time.
Los Gavilanes de la Costa, the band behind “Dame café”, had a brief existence but left a lasting impact, especially in Mexico's sonidero scene. We are thrilled to reissue for the first time one of the best and most sought-after Brazilian funk-soul albums from the early ’70s.
"Cartão Postal" was originally released on Odeon Brazil in 1971, a few years after Evinha started her solo career. From 1961 to 1968 she was a member of Trio Esperança, alongside her brothers Mário and Regina. In 1969 Evinha won first prize at the Festival Internacional da Cançao Popular and her discography for Odeon took off.
"Cartão Postal", her third solo album, comprises some outstanding gems. Songs like ‘Que bandeira’, by Marcos Valle, Paulo Sérgio Valle and Mariozinho Rocha, that moves between funk/soul and bossa/MPB grooves; the stellar ‘Esperar Prá Ver’, co-written by Evinha’s brother Renato Corrêa who also happened to be a member of the Golden Boys, is a mid-tempo funk soul number that features stunning arrangements and an epic bassline that is hard to be forgotten… ‘Só Quero’ emanates samba soul sounds while songs like ‘Por Mera Coincidência’ or ‘Rico Sem Dinheiro’ resemble what Trio Esperança was doing at the time: vocal-driven groovy jams spiced with celestial strings arrangements and heavy-duty drums and basslines, which is not surprising since they both worked with the same producers and arrangers, as they were all Odeon artists.
Ridiculously rare and expensive now, and at the top of many collectors’ wants lists for decades, it’s finally reissued here after years unavailable.

Salsa pianist, vocalist, composer and arranger Ray Pérez, acquired his nickname “Loco” by being a free, independent spirit, an innovator and iconoclast who was initially branded as “crazy” for the freshness and audacity of his sound.
Amazingly, he is not that well known in the US, where he spent some time in the late 1960s and salsa was king during the 1970s. Yet he was quite popular in his home country from the beginning, especially amongst the working class of Caracas and Maracaibo, who adopted Cuban music played by New York Puerto Ricans as their own and called it “salsa” years before the term was employed by US labels like Fania as a marketing tool. Pérez is revered in Venezuela, as well as in Mexico and Colombia, and his storied career, which spans seven decades and thousands of concerts, has yielded more than 35 albums recorded by his various bands, including Los Dementes, Los Kenya, and Los Calvos, all of which are collector’s items today.
These two hot tracks were released in the early 70s and became instant dance floor fillers. In fact, ‘Muchacho Barrigón’ crossed over beyond the Venezuelan salsa scene and a few versions of the tune were recorded by international artists. How cool and handy is to have both songs together on a DJ-friendly 45? First time 7” reissue.

Get On Down presents an often overlooked crucial reggae release from the 1970s with Johnny Clarke’s “Rockers Time Now.” The record is a mix of covers and originals, including ethereal versions of the The Abyssinians “Satta Massagana” and “Declaration of Rights,” smash hits on
the island just the year before. “Rockers Time Now” was first issued in 1976, Clarke had just been named artist of the year in Jamaica for the second year in a row. This is just one of three full lengths he released that year as this was a very prolific period for Clarke, in particular from
1974 onward when his output was directed by legendary producer Bunny Lee. The pairing resulted in a creative energy that resonates to this day. The release was recorded at Channel 1 with Bunny Lee producing, which of course means the band backing the popular Jamaican
vocalist was The Aggrovators, which at the time included Robbie Shakespeare, Earl "Chinna" Smith, Augustus Pablo, and Aston “Family Man” Barrett. The release was mixed at King Tubby’s by Osbourne Ruddock…aka King Tubby. Crucial all the way around.
Now is the time to rediscover a classic of the genre, “Rockers Time Now”.

DESCRIPTION
For many, the music created in 1970s Ethiopia will sound both familiar and alien: while the trappings of ’70s Ethiopian music carry some aspects that those in the West will easily identify with—trap drum kits, jazz big-band styled horn sections, guitars played through wah wah and fuzz pedals—the Ethiopian style of singing, and the modes in which the musicians move, may confound. Perhaps some who have delved into the instrumental Ethio-Jazz of Mulatu Astatke—a well-known Ethiopian musical export, relatively unknown in his homeland—will have a context in which to engage this great compilation of ’70s Ethiopian music by Ayalew Mesfin.
The music Mesfin created with his Black Lion Band is amongst the funkiest to arise from Addis Ababa; his recording career, captured in nearly two dozen 7” singles and numerous reel-to-reel tapes, shows the strata of the most fertile decade in Ethiopia’s 20th century recording industry, when records were pressed constantly by both independent upstarts and corporate behemoths, even if they were only distributed within the confines of the unconquerable East African nation. Ayalew was forced underground by the Derg regime that took control of the country in 1974.
Until recently, only four of Ayalew Mesfin’s tracks had been reissued, appearing in the well-known “Éthiopiques” series. “Hasabe”, a carefully curated collection of his singles, marks the first comprehensive release of this powerful and long-overlooked body of work by an artist whose originality and resistance defined a genre: Ethio-groove.
More than four decades later, this album offers the rare opportunity to rediscover a vital and beautiful chapter in global music history. We are now reissuing “Hasabe” once again thanks to a collaboration with Now Again. Pressed on 180g vinyl.

En Vogue was formed in the late 80s by Oakland-based production and songwriting duo Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy when they recruited vocalists for their release “FM2” for Atlantic. The concept was simple, a modern-day girl trio in the tradition of the Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, the Ronettes and the like who had flourished in the early 1960s. Approximately 3000 women attended the auditions with Dawn Robinson, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones making the final cut. The group expanded almost immediately to a quartet with the addition of Terry Ellis who was initially heartbroken when missing the audition due to a delayed flight. Their debut, Born To Sing, went on to be certified Platinum three times over, propelled by four major singles, including "Lies", "You Don't Have to Worry", and "Hold On" (which was famously interpolated on the LL Cool J song “The Boomin’ System” from the same year), all of which peaked at the number one slot on Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart. In addition to their immediate success, the group influenced the wave of vocal groups throughout the 90s, with a line-up of En Vogue continuing to this day. This album marked the second solo collaboration (and third collaborative effort overall) between highly decorated Griselda captain/Drumwork founder Conway the Machine, and mysterious underground production phenom Big Ghost Ltd.
After the critical successes of both Griselda Ghost (along with Westside Gunn) and No One Mourns The Wicked, it seemed like a no-brainer that the two would likely team up once again. The results this go round were a more ambitious beat selection, and topics ranging from personal loss to mental health struggles to lifelong regrets. Of course, no Conway album would be complete without him shooting up some spots, putting holes in animate objects, and being a general menace to society, and La Maquina is more than happy to oblige.
Album guests include frequent Roc Marciano collaborator Knowledge The Pirate, lyrical heavyweight Ransom, and eventual Griselda signee Rome Streetz, as well legendary turntablist D Styles providing characteristically mind-bending scratches on several of the songs.

Ode to R.L is a heartfelt collaborative album in honor of the late Hill Country Blues legend R.L. Boyce, born out of a magical night at Luther Dickinson’s Zebra Ranch Studios in Coldwater, Mississippi. For G. Love, playing harmonica alongside R.L. that night was a dream realized, raw, soulful and full of laughter. After releasing Philadelphia Mississippi, G. Love and producer Logan Tichnor revisited the tapes and uncovered a powerful idea: sampling and reimagining R.L.'s performances into a fresh, contemporary context. Logan’s vision transformed the recordings into new tracks that fuse Hill Country Blues with modern grooves, capturing both R.L.'s spirit and the energy of the studio that night. Work on the project continued while R.L. was alive, but after his passing, it took on even deeper meaning. Ode to R.L stands as both a celebration and continuation of R.L.
