The success that Run-D.M.C. enjoyed through its first three albums is impossible to overstate — before the trio from Hollis, Queens, stomped its shell-toe Adidas through the music industry, hip-hop was completely unproven as a commercial force. Just about every ‘’first'' in the genre’s history was accomplished by Run-D.M.C.: It was the first hip-hop act to earn Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum album certifications, the first to have a music video play on MTV, the first to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone, the first to nab a Grammy nomination, the first to sign a major endorsement deal.
In a previous edition of liner notes for Tougher Than Leather, Public Enemy frontman Chuck D gave the album its props and shared memories of going on the road with the group after it dropped. He geeks out over the funk and rock samples for the title track as well as the way they cut up their older songs into ‘’Soul To Rock And Roll,'' and claimed ‘’Run’s House'' was ‘’the written theme for all of hip-hop'' in 1988.

Hip-hop has long had an obsession with the debut album as it marks an artist’s introduction to the world and often lives on as their definitive piece of work. Nas had Illmatic.

Jay had Reasonable Doubt. Snoop had Doggystyle. Biggie had Ready to Die. On October 20th, 2009, the day came for Fashawn to make his own mark with, Boy Meets World.

The result was an honest, heartfelt and witty album, the likes of which had seldom been heard from someone his age. Abound with captivating storytelling and magnificent production, the album would quickly receive critical praise.

XXL gave it an ‘XL’ rating and called it an album that “resonates a lot more than the work of some rappers decades his senior.” HipHopDX called it “perhaps the most heir apparent to Nas’ ’94 classic.”

Meshing beautifully and exclusively over the soulful loops of producer Exile — who wowed listeners and critics with Below The Heavens, his 2007 collaboration with Blu — Fashawn's audio biography touches on his series of stepfathers ("I called them all daddy/even though they didn't have me") and even a friend's suicide. Yet he still finds time to play, swapping boasts with hisproducer on "Bo Jackson" and plotting his way out of the friend zone with "Lupita." On “The Ecology,” Fashawn articulates the inner struggles of a good kid from a bad place, over Exile’s dramatic string sample.

Fashawn may only have been 20 years old at the time of the album’s release, but he’s possessed the wisdom of a man well beyond his years.

A versatile pianist who has been a valuable asset on many sessions through the years, Bernie Senensky has long been one of Canada's finest jazz musicians. Senensky started with classical piano lessons when he was nine and discovered jazz around five years later. He played locally as a teenager (including with Lennie Breau and Dave Young), led the house band in various Holiday Inns all over Canada and settled in Toronto in 1968. Senensky has performed with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Elvin Jones, Maynard Ferguson's Big Band, Rob McConnell's Boss Brass, Phil Woods, Dizzy Gillespie, Terry Gibbs, Buddy DeFranco, Art Pepper, Scott Hamilton and Bill Watrous, among many other visiting Americans. Throughout the 1980s he was a regular member of the Moe Koffman Quintet. This album was recorded after the American trio had stayed a year in Buenos Aires, playing with and absorbing the talents of the Argentinian musicians who accompany here. The result is a dazzling blend of styles, and Stone Alliance's best effort to date. There is some fierce playing, notably from saxophonist Steve Grossman, but the overall feeling is Latin American melancholy and rhythm.

Percussionist Don Alias seems most adept at this synthesis; his African jungle percussion is delightful when positioned against the throb of congas, whistles and other South American instruments.

This is part of Now Again Records multiple LP series on the History of Memphis Rap, which attempts to capture Memphis and its underground rap scene as it began to pro- duce some of the most distinctive music of the 90s.

Rakim is an American rapper best known as one half of the legendary rap duo Eric B. & Rakim.

Rakim is considered a transformative figure in hip hop for raising the bar for MC technique higher than it had ever been. Rakim helped to pioneer the use of internal rhymes and multisyllabic rhymes, and he was among the first to demonstrate the possibilities of sitting down to write ntricately crafted lyrics packed with clever word choices and metaphors rather than the more improvisational styles and simpler rhyme patterns that redominated before him.

Rakim is also credited with creating the overall shiftfrom the more simplistic old school flows to more complex flows. Rapper Kool Moe Dee explained that before Rakim the term 'flow' wasn't widely used – "Rakim is basically the inventor of flow.

We were not even using the word flow until Rakim came along. It was called rhyming, it was called cadence,
but it wasn't called flow. Rakim created flow!"

Here is the much anticipated Volume 5 of the HOT SAUCE compilation LPs dedicated to the Trojan related labels between 1965 and 1975.

HOT SAUCE Volume 5 features outstanding original Rocksteady, Boss Reggae and early Reggae tracks including rare songs, overlooked gems, hidden treasures and a couple of hits.

The record labels showcased on this fourth volume are Amalgamated, Bread, Downtown, Duke, Explosion,Grape, Harry J Records , JJ Records, Rio, Splash, Upsetter and Techniques.

Particular attention has been paid to the way the songs are sequenced so that the album builds up nicely and gradually, generally starting with the Rocksteady songs on the A side and the 70s songs on the B side.

The HOT SAUCE series is a musical journey across Trojan and its labels showcasing early Jamaican Reggae’s diverse musical genres and outstanding artists.

"Da Beatminerz defined the dark, gritty sound of underground Hip-Hop in the '90s. Formed in 1992 by brothers Walter “Mr. Walt” and Ewart “DJ Evil Dee” Dewgarde, the production duo pioneered Hip-Hop's brooding vibes, a tonal shift that came with the release of Black Moon's classic debut album Enta Da Stage. As producers of the seminal 1993 project in its entirety, Da Beatminerz set a precedent for hardcore Hip-Hop. Their sample-heavy, gutter tracks laced with heavy basslines, and hard kicks and snares helped reshape the music genre. Da Beatminerz continued to refine their distinct sound and identity with countless classic records for other artists and two albums of their own (2001’s Brace 4 Impak and 2004’s Fully Loaded w/ Statik) over the course of their illustrious 30-year career. Stifled Creativity is the duo’s first full-length album in 20 years. “We started working on this album in 2009... We had one focus and the focus was to stick to our core sound. Regardless of critical opinion, the release was not the crossover success Palmieri and Roulette Records had hoped for, at least in the immediate. Over the years the release has developed a following among listeners, DJs, and aficionados of rare-grooves.
The record may have been recorded towards the end of the Latin soul era, yet it features that genre's wonderful mix of Puerto Rican soul, Spanish Harlem Latin, and New York funk. Palmieri worked with an incredibly talented crew of Latin and R&B session musicians to create this quintessential New York vibe, a synthesis of funk and Afro-Cuban sounds. Contributors include Victor Venegas from Mongo Santamaria’s band, Palmieri’s brother Charlie, an accomplished musician in his own right, Bruce Fowler who went on to join Frank Zappa’s band, Dick Meza who went on to great things with Tito Puente, Ray Barretto and Celia Cruz, as well as Andy Gonzalez who’s pedigree includes recordings with Barretto, Johnny Pacheco, Willie Colon
and even Chico O’Farrill. Also appearing Randy Brecker and one of the all-time
greatest of the greats Bernard Purdy.
An over-arching theme of Harlem River Drive is the thought that, as Palmieri puts it “The U.S. is richest country, all this immense wealth, side by side with the most intense poverty, racial prejudice; how is that possible?” A question that’s perhaps more even more relevant today than it was in 1971. A question that can be further explored with Get On Down’s reissue of this seminal recording.

Norwegian producer Ole-Birger Neergård revisits 74: Out of Time with emotive ideations; new remixes featuring Fly Anakin, Pink Siifu, Gabe ‘Nandez, Quelle Chris, and other notables from the current vanguard of rap progressives. Soulkitchen is a Not only Germany’s first pure Rare Groove music club, and one of the first on the globe, it was also the homebase of “The Soulkitchen Cookin’ Crew”, a DJ-team which took its international audience by storm with an increasingly infectious, and deliciously danceable meal of Soul and Heavy Funk.
The subsequent founding of the record label Soulciety with signings of Soul and Funk legends like Bobby Byrd, Roy Ayers, Lonnie Liston Smith, Eddie Bo, Roger Troutman, Dean Francis and many more, emphasized the true and ambitious love for original Soul music from the late Sixties, Seventies and early Eighties. Ever since, “The Soulkitchen Cookin’ Crew” has been doing its thing worldwide, playing live and DJing in the original, immortal Rare Groove style.
In 2003 “The Soulkitchen Cookin’ Crew” started producing and recording their first album, creating original and so called „New Heavy Funk“ tunes, firstly in a very original raw soul style, just known from their 30 years ago founded 7“ label „Hot Pie & Candy Records“ they established for the legendary „Poets Of Rhythm“, the Munich band they signed in 1993.
Later adding more grown up well arranged and produced songs with a late 70ts feel.
It took them 12 Years to finish it and another 8 years more to release it and though after 20 years after the start of creating a full length album it has had its digital birth in 2023. But now for the first time ever the first track is pressed on vinyl.

Avis would see two releases in total, a Ray Sharp solo record (AVIS-1002) but more relative to our story, The Ebonys - Back In My Arms b/w I Can't Help But Love You (AVIS-1001). Recorded in 1968 and released in 1969 the record failed to chart, or maybe get radio play at all. This was the very first release for Clarence, David, James, and Jennifer as The Ebonys. Written and produced by Ray and arranged by the late, great Roland Chambers, the single seems to have long been forgotten. Perhaps it was overlooked, or overshadowed by the very successful career The Ebonys would go on to have at PIR, under Gamble & Huff. In 1971, The Ebonys' single You're The Reason Why was in the ten on the U.S. R&B Charts, a first for PIR. Fifty-five years later, after a seemingly endless effort by Raymond Waterhouse to relive some of that late 1960s glory with later bands like Waterhouse, Live A Little, Profit, The Four Accents, The Ebonys original reel-to-reel master tapes from the Avis label sessions have been found and remastered and sound as good today as they did back in 1969. In that original session for Ray at Sigma Sound Studios with Joe Tarsia doing the mix, there were three songs done in total, which will finally see a proper release on a 7" / 45rpm.

Declaime also known as Dudley Perkins grew up living across the street from Madlib at around the age of eight and nine. They introduced themselves through a week long pop locking battle from across the street, it was Declaime against Madlib and his sister stacey. Once they became friends Madlib began to show Declaime his early beat tapes. He use to use pencils paper foil, pillows and his beatboxing skills which was far advanced back then. Decalime and his family moved and they lost contact for a short time. Declaime would run into Madlib every once in a while in the neighborhood grocery store where Madlib once worked. It wasnt until about 93-94 when Declaime's brother who was still classmates with Madlib aka Otis Jackson and some of the earlier crate diggas palace crew members introduced Decalime to Kankick who was in a group at that time with Otis, WildChild and DJ Romes, they were called the Lootpack. Other crew members were Kazi, Medaphoar, gods Gift, Gran Vanac, Nick Anderson, Abstract Wino and Roc C. Kankick was the leader of a crew called the Fonk Farm, CDP and The Farm were 2 crews in one. Madlib headed CDP. Tons of recordings were made by these two crews, many battles were fought to get any sort of recognition in the town of Oxnard. Madlib with the help of the crew, forged a new sound that soon was heard all around the world, to this day. Collection of tracks recorded from 93-96 at the Crate Diggas Palace in Oxnard California. Originaly pressed up on cassettes and dats, these tracks were lost for almost 25 years. Re-masterd by DJ Rhomes and available for the first time in all formats.

Producers Wino Willy and Giallo Point have come together to flex their muscles on an instrumental opus. Both acclaimed beatsmiths have made waves with their extensive catalogue of works. They have worked with a myriad of artists both established and underground. Wino Willy and Giallo Point have a shared passion for cinematic and textured production styles. Willy's love for world-building through music, influenced by films and Afrofuturism, aligned with Giallo Point's expertise in crafting atmospheric soundscapes. For this project they both submitted instrumentals to head of Grilchy Party, MarQ Spekt, who had a hand in the arrangement of the record. This project harkens back to the days of cassette beat tapes and cds you would get featuring 2 premiere producers going head to head with a variety of raw production. Meant to inspire those who write or those looking to get into a fresh zone, this project has something for everyone and truly showcases two masters at work.

DESCRIPTION
Spacing Out is an instrumental masterpiece only ever issued in Bermuda at the turn of 1970. A mix of the band's out-there original compositions and extravagant covers of The Meters, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin and The Isley Brothers, it established this band as one of the greatest instrumental bands of any genre, and helped kickstart the retro-soul/funk scenes that birthed the likes of Daptone and Big Crown Records. It's certainly a lodestar for Now-Again Records.
This reissue was done with the license and participation of the entire Invaders band, with their story told in great detail in an oversized booklet penned by Jefferson "Chairman" Mao, complete with rare photos of this rarely seen ensemble. From the proverbial stank face-inducing opening bars of reverb-drenched drums and congas that announce Spacing Out, you're thrust into something visceral and fleeting: a pocket universe in which technical excess, chemistry between players, and the uninhibited energy of youth align in a kind of glorious imperfection. Spacing Out is one of the greatest instrumental albums of its or any period in that unmistakably raw - as in honest - way only a crew of largely self-taught young uns could catch a groove.

Czarface and Stress Eater MC Esoteric followed up his proper debut solo album (2007’s Egoclapper) with this conceptual masterpiece, now available for the first time on vinyl!
This full-length is an audio drama based on a bizarre dream that Esoteric had sometime around 2006. As he describes it, “It was a crazy period in my life: I was engaged, in the process of finding a new home; I was starting my own label on a totally independent, self-financed level...I had a lot of stress and reserva- tions in my life. Celph Titled and I had just built my Pterolab studio, I had started to really produce and was really getting into it, making a ton of beats and had a ton of ideas. I guess all that stress and those feelings just manifested.” The results were what became Saving Seamus Ryan.
The album is broken into chapters rather than individual tracks and includes vocal contributions from the legendary and consummate Hip Hop theme-writer Masta Ace, K.Flay, Blacastan, Main Flow, and Qwill. Colorful characters from Eso’s childhood and subconscious also help along the journey (including a cameo by DJ Premier). Esoteric handles most of the production duties himself, but is also backed by career-long partner 7L.
