Includes 12"x12" insert

Paris DJs is a young label launched in 2012, who's already put out no less than 4 Reggae albums, 5 Afro/Tropical compilations, 2 Hip Hop compilations and 50 singles of Reggae, Ska, Afro, Latin, Jazz, Soul, etc. The productions come from all over the world, mastered with a vintage, warm and ideally spatialized sound. You can find those releases on the digital platforms, Bandcamp, JunoDownload, iTunes, Amazon, etc.

Now Paris DJs starts doing vinyl releases, with many collectable pressings, a six 45s boxset named "VINYL IS GOOD FOR YOU", and this a double vinyl LP compilation "DIS IS REGGAE SOUL VOL.1", all about Jamaican grooves - Reggae, Rub-a-Dub and Ska!!

Featuring Afrodyete (The Breakestra), Carlton Livingston, Grant Phabao, Jungle Fire, Leroy Gibbon, Ocote Soul Sounds & Adrian Quesada, Suzanna Choffel, The Cactus Channel (courtesy of HopeStreet Recordings), The Grits (courtesy of Hamhock Records), The Jays, The Lone Ranger, and The Silvertones, this selection gathers the coolest tunes from Paris DJs' digital releases.

The multicolored 12 inches center artworks, the LP sleeve and the insert have all been conceived and illustrated by graphic designer Ben Hito, "the only French artist who achieved the perfect alchemy between the hippie psychedelism from San Francisco 1967 et the Foucray wallpapers design from the Seventies" (Rock'n'Folk magazine - Dec 2013).

This double LP is strictly limited, no re-press, a true collector's item. It was crowdfunded through a campaign of pre-orders which happened in June 2014 on the French Kiss Kiss Bank Bank website. Only 500 copies of that album are being printed, and already 135 have been pre-ordered...

TRACK-BY-TRACK INFO :

01. Jungle Fire - Firewalker (Grant Phabao Remix)
An irresistible raw Afro Disco number with a fuzzy bongo breakdown from Los Angeles-based Jungle Fire, remixed by Grant Phabao for a unique blend of Afro-Latin Disco Funk action and Jamaican Ska power, full of jumpin' skanks, dancin' breaks and funkin' horn licks. Listen, freak out, play it to the crowds, and watch them go nuts!!

02. The Grits - Make A Sound (Like James Brown) (Grant Phabao Remix)
UK raw funk activists The Grits have put out an irresistible funk 45, with some heavy breaks, a funky groove, some typical JB shouts and a psychedelic finale! '"Hey, make a sound, doesn't matter what sound it is, as long as it sounds like James Brown", does it say. You need this piece of hard-striking funk, and here's a special surprise: a skanking reggae remix of that tune by Grant Phabao aiming for the James Scratch Perry Brown sound in full force!

03. The Jays - Stepping Up In Time
The Jays is a group that has made its mark on the Jamaican music scene, with hits such as "Queen Majesty", "Truly", "Yaho" or "Pick Up The Pieces". They originally started out as The Royals, evolved into The Ten Pace and then into The Jays, and are now composed of Lloyd Forrest, Errol Wilson and Leroy Hall. Being in the business for almost 40 years, The Jays are now back, as fresh as ever, ready to hit the charts with this roots one drop reggae tearing up the dancehalls.

04. Afrodyete - Itchin' For Your Love
While singing & touring with The Breakestra, AFRODYETE stopped twice a Paris DJs' studios to record some new productions with multi-talented French producer Grant Phabao. This is her first single with Paris DJs, "Itchin' For Your Love", a storming and entrancing soulful ska burner, super hot, sexy and smoking! Love is AFRODYETE's true mission and she wants everyone to feel her “friendly fire”!

05. Suzanna Choffel - Guardians (Grant Phabao Remix)
Star of NBC's The Voice, Suzanna Choffel released one the 20 best singles of 2013, "Guardians", produced by esteemed collaborator Adrian Quesada at his own Level One Studios. A few days before the start of her early 2014 15-dates French tour, came a surprise with the release of a reggae soul remix of that classic single by Paris DJs alumni Grant Phabao!

06. The Lone Ranger - Fever
"For all these years I wanted to do "Fever" and I had to wait until I met Phabao and TIMEC to get it right. It's a combination style of Ranger, singer and deejay. Counteracting styles. Gliding in deejay style. Original 70s deejay style of Lone Ranger, you know." (The Lone Ranger)

07. Ocote Soul Sounds & Adrian Quesada - Vendendo Saude E Fé (Grant Phabao remix)
Chicanos in outer space Ocote Soul Sounds (a.k.a. Martin Perna from Antibalas and Adrian Quesada from Brownout or The Echocentrics) have put out 3 fantastic, cornerstone albums of Afro-Latin music. A real blend between African grooves and Mexican/South American music that hasn't been achieved before or since. Their soul-tripping ballad with fuzzed-out guitar from 2010 gets reworked by Parisian producer Grant Phabao, adding some Jamaican grooves to the already unique formula, for a dazzling remix in psychedelic Afro-Brazilian Reggae style!

08. The Cactus Channel - Budokan (Grant Phabao Remix)
Thanks to their label, HopeStreet Recordings, French reggae/afro/funk/jazz producer Grant Phabao managed to get his hands on this track from Australian funk band The Cactus Channel, and cooked up one of his legendary reggae remixes. One all about the summer breeze, as if Cali weed could be extracted from Australian cactuses… Roll a phat one or help yourself with a nice cocktail drink, sit back in the sun and enjoy!

09. The Silvertones - Old Man River
The Silvertones are a Jamaican reggae harmony group formed in 1964, now comprised of Carl "Smoker" Grant, Keith "Sleepy" Coley, and Joel Brown. They're best known for their recordings for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle label in the 60s, with Lee "Scratch" Perry in the early 70s, or with Clement "Coxsone" Dodd at Studio One in the late 70s. "Old Man River" is extracted from The Silvertones' third album "Keep On Rolling", released early 2013 on the Paris DJs label and produced by Grant Phabao.

10. The Lone Ranger - Weh Reggae Come From (feat. Carlton Livingston)
A new instant classic, a combination of The Lone Ranger deep and growling rub-a-dub verses, filled to the cup with the "yeah", "tell about it", "boom", "slang dang dang", "how you mean" and other "boom shack" slurs, with the sweet and soulful chorus from Carlton Livingston, the kind that gets stuck in the head. French producer Grant Phabao delivers an intense and profound instrumental, a cover of Ken Boothe's "Artibella" from 1965, pure roots reggae music that could have been recorded decades ago in Jamaica by the greats, Bunny Lee, King Tubby, Lee Perry, etc.

11. Leroy Gibbon - Wipe The Tear From Your Eye
Jamaican singer Leroy Gibbon burst on the dancehall scene in the mid-1980s with his strong voice and Lovers Rock style. When Leroy heard Grant Phabao's music, he was instantly hooked and offered to voice one of his riddims, the "Usain Bolt The Puma" relentless one, tight and bumpy, like 70s Jamaica sounding heavy. The song is an original one, penned on the spot, and it's another sure-fire winner combination of two great talents. International style, roots style, reggae style, Paris DJs style...

12. Carlton Livingston - Cramp & Paralyze
Carlton Livingston's wicked dubplate style is coveted by sound systems all over the world. His relentless flow of releases on Paris DJs covers a lot of ground across the roots reggae spectrum, from reality tunes to lovers rock, hard core ganja tunes to roots dance hall music… This exclusive track is another reggae classic, expressing a deep faith through religion-focused lyrics. The Foundation dancehall singer delivers a great singalong tune, driven by a rolling and booming bassline from Grant Phabao's new roots reggae riddim on a late 70s/early 80s tip.
