Willie George Hale, known as Little Beaver, carved his legacy as a session guitarist for legends like Betty Wright, Al Kooper, and Blowfly all while developing a unique, rythmic blues guitar style. Stepping into the spotlight in the mid 70s, he released Black Rhapsody his second album on florida’s iconic TK Records, showcasing his unparalleled guitar talent.
This 1974 instrumental gem highlights Little Beaver’s original deep funk grooves alongside soulful reinterpretations of Al Green, The Temptations, The Jackson 5, and George Gershwin. Featuring the standout track “ A Tribute To Wes” , which was later sampled by J Dilla for Slum Village’s Conant Gardens, Black Rhapsody bridges the gap between funk and modern hip-hop, influencing artists like Jay-z and People Under The Stairs.
