DESCRIPTION
In 1996, Busta Rhymes delivered his debut album, The Coming, three years after the Leaders of the New School unofficially disbanded. Though his talents were evident on those Leaders of the New School releases, Busta went on a series of features that only built up the public's desire for a solo Busta album. Right out of the gate, Busta dropped his classic debut single "Woo Hah!! (Got You All in Check)" that made it abundantly clear he was to be mentioned among Hip Hop's greatest solo artists. The energy and originality packed on that one song set a tone for the album that displays Busta's raw talent and ability to bend words with his ever rambunctious flow. The album features production by Easy Mo Bee, DJ Scratch, Q-Tip, and J Dilla. Songs such as "Everything Remains Raw", "Abandon Ship", and "Still Shining" all rise above as The Coming's stand-out tracks, but "Ill Vibe" is the album's crown jewel moment. Busta sounds right at home over this J Dilla beat, trading verses with his Native Tongue cohort Q-Tip. The Coming was a critical and commercial success for Busta Rhymes. It reached #6 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1996 and has since received a platinum certification from RIAA. As mentioned, The Coming boasts the hit single "Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check " which reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1996. It was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. It also ended up sporting another hit single, It's a Party featuring Zhané. The Coming shows amazing variety where Busta can break free from the bells and the whistles of the Busta Dungeon Dragon flow to explore other ways of leaving our jaws open by his incredible lyricism. The Coming surely lives up to its title, as Busta delivers a performance that ignited his impeccable solo career.

The creation of "Things I Seen" is a testament to the synergy of two creative titans who have long earned their places in hip-hop’s pantheon. Bronze Nazareth, known for crafting lush, cinematic soundscapes, and Termanology, celebrated for his lyricism and storytelling, embarked on this project with a shared vision: to create an album that is both timeless and authentic. The result is a seamless blend of gritty beats, thought-provoking lyrics, and an unrelenting dedication to the craft.
The album's genesis can be traced to a mutual admiration between the two artists, with both recognizing the potential to create something extraordinary together. Sessions were filled with late-night conversations, shared stories, and a deep dive into the realities of their respective journeys. This organic collaboration is evident in the cohesive sound and thematic depth of "Things I Seen."

DESCRIPTION
In discussions of the classic hip-hop era of the 1980s, frequently lost in the shuffle is the homegrown scene of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is unfortunate due to the wealth of talent the scene produced, including bona fide legends such as Schoolly D, Three Times Dope, Cash Money & Marvelous, and of course, the wildly successful DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Frequently underrated is Tuff Crew, who were billed as "Philly's First Rap Supergroup", and consisted of a crew of ethnically diverse MCs and a DJ, who were regular performers of North Philly's famed After Midnight club, and who definitely represented a more hardcore rap style than some of their fellow Philly crews. Throughout the mid-to-late 1980s, Tuff Crew performed alongside some of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time, including Run-D.M.C., LL Cool J, and 2 Live Crew, but never reached the heights of commercial success, despite landing various singles on the Billboard Rap charts. The peak of this success undoubtedly came with the release of their 1988 LP Danger Zone, which featured 10 tracks of classic 80s rap, including the Billboard-charting "My Part Of Town" (#23 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles charts). This album cemented Tuff Crew in the hip-hop history books as one of the dopest crews to ever come out of Philly, and unlike most late 80s rap albums, the lyrics and beats still bang hard in 2025.

Cold Heat is Eothen “Egon” Alapatt’s a follow-up to the famous Funky 16 Corners set he curated in the early 2000s. And like that one, Cold Heat is overflowing with great bits that had barely (or never) been heard by the rest of the world at large. Egon went through a range of rare singles, masters, and demos and came up with tunes that burn with a brightness that's undeniable.
The grooves are all on the harder end of the James Brown Funky People side of the spectrum and some tracks are by names that finally got their due here, thanks to Egon, Now-Again, and some of the other funky forces doing the good work over the years.

DESCRIPTION
Jackie Mittoo’s ‘Reggae Magic’ is a new collection from the great Jackie Mittoo. The album features a mixture of classic tunes and rarities from the period 1967-74, when Mittoo was at the height of his musical powers.
Mittoo’s solo career began after the end of The Skatalites in 1965. He began pushing new musical boundaries, creating a uniquely identifiable organ-led funky reggae sound that owed as much to Booker T and The MGs, Jimmy Smith, Stax and Motown as to the post-ska and emergent rocksteady island rhythms of Kingston, Jamaica.
His solo work at the legendary Studio One spanned seven albums and hundreds of singles. Aside from producer and founder Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd, it’s hard to think of anyone more central to the sound and success of Studio One than Mittoo; keyboard player extraordinaire, songwriter, arranger, musician, truly the Keyboard King at Studio One.
Jackie Mittoo had been the youngest founding member of The Skatalites (at age 16), probably the most important group in Jamaican music. After they split, he became leader of the three pivotal groups at Studio One – The Soul Brothers, The Soul Vendors and Sound Dimension. He also became musical director for Studio One, helping create countless hits for singers Ken Boothe, Bob Andy, The Wailers, John Holt, Delroy Wilson and more – unforgettable tunes like Alton Ellis’ ‘I’m Still in Love with You’, Marcia Griffiths’ ‘Feel Like Jumping’, The Heptones’ ‘Baby Why’ and others.
Between 1965 and 1968, many of the tunes created at Studio One can be attributed to Mittoo – timeless instrumental tracks, recorded either under his own name or those of The Soul Brothers, Soul Vendors and Sound Dimension, that have become the basis for literally 1000s and 1000s of Jamaican songs over many decades, giving the music an unsurpassed longevity.
The endurance of his music was as a direct result of significant developments in Jamaican music in the 1970s, namely the creation of three important new styles: Dub, Deejay and Dancehall. In the early 1970s Mittoo’s instrumental tracks were used as the musical source for a series of classic Studio One dub albums. At the same time Deejays at Studio One, including Dillinger, Prince Jazzbo and Dennis Alcapone, began toasting over these same popular rhythms to create their own new songs.
In the mid-70s, a new generation of Studio One singers and deejays, including Sugar Minott, Freddie McGregor, Johnny Osbourne, Michigan & Smiley and others, began once again creating new melodies over these original instrumentals, signalling the birth of a new Jamaican style that became known as ‘dancehall’. As dancehall swept across the island, rival producers copied these now classic rhythms.
These original Jackie Mittoo-driven tunes spread like a virus throughout Jamaican music; be they the instrumental cuts to tunes such as Alton Ellis’ ‘Mad Mad’ , ‘I’m Just A Guy’, Larry Marshall’s ‘Mean Girl’, Slim Smith’s ‘Rougher Yet’, and instrumentals such as Mittoo’s classic ‘Hot Milk’ or ‘One Step Beyond’, The Sound Dimension’s ‘Real Rock’, ‘Heavy Rock’, ‘Full Up’, ‘Drum Song’, ‘Rockfort Rock’ ... and the list goes on. These tracks became a constant soundtrack to the island, emitting from the ever-present sound of speaker boxes strung up around dancehalls.
This recycling travelled even farther afield; The Sound Dimension’s instrumental ‘Real Rock’, updated by Willie Williams on his classic ‘Armageddon Time’ was in turn covered by The Clash. Lily Allen sampled Mittoo’s debut solo single ‘Free Soul’ for number one hit ‘Smile’; Dawn Penn’s ‘You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)’, accompanied by The Soul Vendors, was revived by Penn and producers Steely & Cleevie in 1994, since covered by Rihanna, Ghostface Killah, Stephen Marley, Damian Marley and Beyonce.
And so it goes; an endless time-leaping, continent-hopping diasporic musical map of the world with all roads essentially leading back to one man – Jackie Mittoo.Jackie Mittoo’s ‘Reggae Magic’ is a new collection from the great Jackie Mittoo.
The Flatbush duo, The Underachievers, make their long-awaited return to hip-hop with Homecoming, their first project in five years. True to its name, this nine-track release is a powerful reintroduction—rooted in their signature sound while reflecting their artistic evolution. As pioneers of underground hip-hop, The Underachievers have consistently pushed boundaries with critically acclaimed projects that have shaped the genre. Homecoming continues this legacy, blending introspective lyricism with high-energy production. Previously released standalone singles “Brand New,” “Megatron,” and “Have Nots” provide an anthemic ode to unity and strength, a raw reflection on perseverance and showcase their dynamic range. The project opens with a special introduction from New York’s very own DJ Enuff, setting the stage for Homecoming with a declaration that The Underachievers are back and ready to take over. As the project unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the undeniable chemistry between AKTHESAVIOR and Issa Gold. With some production contributions from Issa Gold, Homecoming is more than a project—it’s a statement, a celebration, and a testament to The Underachievers’ enduring impact.

DESCRIPTION
The music keeps flowing out of the Attic Studio, and we’re blessed once again with a fresh new 45 from “Marcus I meets aDUBta.” The latest release in their 7-inch series is "Mr. Money Man", a powerful blend of Nyabinghi spirit and Rocksteady swing—anchored by a deep one-drop groove. With its full auxiliary percussion stylings and the fun off-shoot lyrics from singer Marcus I, this single is a unique addition to their discography. The single further showcases the authentic, high-quality craftsmanship of producer and drummer aDUBta, who hails from Bavaria, Germany. Known for his analog production style and hands-on approach, aDUBta played and recorded all instruments himself. "Mr. Money Man" was written during a series of sessions last year, as part of the duo’s ongoing effort to channel the timeless vibes of 1960s Studio One. The B-side, simply titled "Version", delivers a heavy dub cut mixed live by aDUBta on his trusty Tascam 388. Expect space echo trails, feedback swells, and percussive drops galore—classic ingredients with their own twist. A serious sound system piece and a must-have for selectors and collectors alike. DESCRIPTION
When Night Owls released their first 45 in July 2019, few could have predicted that their vision of reimagining soul classics in a Jamaican style would blossom into a catalog of fifteen 45s featuring a total of 27 songs with many of today's leading soul singers and legendary artists. Following the success of their first compilation LP, "Versions," it was only a matter of time before Night Owls would grace us with a Vol. 2. Now, in 2025, we are excited to present "Versions II," which compiles their latest seven 45s to date, tastefully programmed from start to finish. Raising the bar even higher, this production team, comprising Dan Ubick, Blake Colie, Dave Wilder, and Roger Rivas, further cements their distinct vision and signature sound, delivering hit after hit over the years. With Night Owls' twist on many beloved, chart-topping hits and diggers' choice deep cuts (including the highly in-demand and long-sold-out single "After Laughter b/w Didn't I"), producer Dan Ubick has once again meticulously curated a tracklist that highlights each vocalist's strengths. Featuring many well-known guest artists such as Hollie Cook (Prince Fatty, Mr. Bongo), N'Dea Davenport (The Brand New Heavies), Chris Dowd (Fishbone), Ranking Joe (Greensleeves, Joe Gibbs), Tippa Lee (Studio One, Dub Club), Trish Toledo, Asdru Sierra (Ozomatli), Malik Moore (Ocean 11), Alex Désert (Hepcat) & The Lions, Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Destani Wolf, Gina Murrell (U Roy, Wailing Souls, Orgone), Chris Murray, Miles Tackett (Breakestra, Funky Sole), and Jr. Thomas & The Volcanos, "Versions II" is yet another heavy soul and dub-infused LP, ready for turntables across the globe.

CB Records is thrilled to announce the latest 7" release, Vindaloo, a groundbreaking collaboration between J.J. This dynamic release features two explosive remixes, Vindaloo and Maccheroni, both crafted with Mophono’s signature "Skip on Beat" style and capped with killer drum break outro tools for DJs and beat enthusiasts alike. Both tracks are reimaginings of songs originally featured on the first volume of the Madlib Invazion Music Library Series, giving them new life with Mophono’s innovative production techniques and gritty funk aesthetic. Known for his love of retro funk and hard-hitting rhythms, Mophono didn’t stop at just one remix—he eagerly tackled two distinct reinterpretations of the same project, showcasing his versatility and respect for Whitefield’s original compositions. The Artists Behind the Magic Mophono (a.k.a. DJ Centipede) has long been a driving force in the experimental funk and breakbeat scenes, blending retro influences with cutting-edge production. His passion for gritty, percussion-driven tracks is on full display here, cementing his status as one of the Bay Area’s most influential producers. J.J. Whitefield, known as the mastermind behind The Poets of Rhythm, has been lauded for his pioneering role in the modern funk revival. Bosco Mann, co-founder of Daptone Records, once described The Poets of Rhythm as "the band that convinced me soul music wasn’t dead," crediting their influence as foundational to Daptone’s success and the global resurgence of soul music. Together, Mophono and Whitefield deliver a release that bridges eras, fusing the raw energy of classic funk with forward-thinking beats. Don’t Miss Out! DESCRIPTION
Suave House Records, in collaboration with Coalmine Reissues, proudly presents the first- ever vinyl reissue of On Top of the World by Eightball & MJG, celebrating the album’s 30th anniversary. This groundbreaking 1995 release, a cornerstone of Southern hip-hop, not only cemented the duo’s status as Memphis legends but also propelled them onto the national stage, highlighting their exceptional talent and unique sound.
At a time when the East and West Coasts dominated the rap scene, On Top of the World brought the Third Coast into the conversation with its masterful storytelling, slick production, and unparalleled chemistry between 8Ball and MJG. The album climbed the charts, peaking at #8 on the Billboard 200, earning gold certification, and proving that Southern hip-hop had a unique and powerful voice in the game.
Key singles like “Space Age Pimpin’” were instrumental in this breakout. The smooth, infectious track lit up airwaves across the country, reaching #58 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and #22 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. Meanwhile, “Pimp in My Own Rhyme” underscored the duo’s lyrical prowess and contributed to the album’s widespread acclaim.
On Top of the World remains a hallmark of 1990s hip-hop—a testament to Eightball & MJG’s ability to carve out their own lane. This reissue is a must-have for fans, celebrating a record that propelled Southern rap to new heights and cemented its rightful place in hip-hop history.

DESCRIPTION
Jackpot Records is extremely proud to announce our reissue of the revered reggae album 1976's War Ina Babylon by Max Romeo & The Upsetters. Originally released on Island Records, the album is considered one of the greatest Reggae albums of all time and was a massive influence on the UK punk movement that was just starting to bubble to the surface. The record's incredible power belies an unlikely partnership between one of the world's greatest producers (and experimenters in sound), Lee "Scratch" Perry, and vocalist Max Romeo (who by 1976 had performed on over 120 7" singles) Romeo had been transforming from his "rude" records to writing lyrics with social themes as the era in Jamaica was rife with poverty, gangs, and politically motivated killings. As he was looking to produce protest music at it's most powerful alongside music that would never leave the listener's souls, Lee Perry and Max Romeo started collaborating together. Recorded in two weeks in 1976, utilizing Lee Perry's kitchen sink production, War Ina Babylon is considered part of Lee Perry's 'holy trinity' Black Ark produced LPs released by Island Records (Junior Murvin's Police and Thieves and The Heptones' Party Time being the other classics LPs in the trinity), this LP continues to find new fans with every passing generation.

Dream Manifest is the latest visionary statement from GRAMMY-nominated trumpeter, composer, and producer Theo Croker—a transcendent sonic journey blending jazz, soul, electronica, and Afro-futurist storytelling into a genre-fluid experience. Brought to life with an elite ensemble and shaped through intentional craftsmanship, the album invites listeners into a dreamstate where ritual, resistance, and revelation unfold through sound. From the meditative invocation of “Prelude 3” to the dance-floor liberation of “We Still Wanna Dance” and the interdimensional elegance of “One Pillow” (featuring Estelle and Kassa Overall), Croker builds a soundscape where dualities meet: acoustic and synthetic, earthly and cosmic, past and future. With contributions from jazz legends like Gary Bartz and next-gen voices like MAAD, Malaya, and Tyreek McDole, the album vibrates with collective spirit and personal truth. Produced entirely by Croker with select collaborators like D’LEAU, Elie, and Kassa Overall, and mixed by longtime engineer Todd Carder, Dream Manifest is rooted in improvisation and intentionality. It’s more than an album—it’s a ceremonial experience. Every track, every solo, every melody, every groove is a call to imagine beyond the limitations of the known world. Pressed on limited edition 180gram vinyl with a printed insert, Dream Manifest is a must-have artifact of sonic and spiritual significance—created to raise your vibrations.

DESCRIPTION
To celebrate our 50th Anniversary Ace Records are delighted to offer a three-LP limited edition compilation of where it all started – Chiswick Records.
Back in November 1975, Ted Carroll finally made his dream of starting an independent label a reality when Chiswick released their first single – The Count Bishop’s “Speedball” EP.
Flanked by Roger Armstrong and Trevor Churchill, Chiswick were in the right place at the right time. They were soon releasing singles that dropped anchor in pub rock, punk, metal, pop and rockabilly by the likes of the 101’ers, Motörhead, the Gorillas, the Radio Stars, the Radiators, the Stukas and many more.
There were also big names before they got bigger. Joe Strummer led the 101’ers. Johnny & the Self Abusers later morphed into Simple Minds whereas Riff Raff featured a young Billy Bragg. Solo artist Jakko became a mainstay of a later incarnation of King Crimson.
Over seven years, Chiswick singles not only sold well but the label even managed score chart singles with artists as diverse as the Radio Stars, Sniff ‘n’ the Tears, Rocky Sharpe & The Replays and the Damned.
Compiled by Roger Armstrong this 3-LP set pulls together some of the finest 45rpm output from Chiswick issued between 1975 and 1982. From the well-known to Minor Classics.
Roger Armstrong and Ted Carroll have also penned the informative line notes with stories ranging from hiring an aeroplane to take a promoter to see a gig in France in those early days, how a brief piano part was added to the Damned’s ‘Smash It Up’ and Thin Lizzy’s Phil Lynott came to produce Terry Woods ‘Tennessee Stud’.

DESCRIPTION
“Raw & Alive – The Seeds In Concert” may just possibly be the greatest “live” album that never was. Released in 1968 towards the end of the original quartet’s career, the album was an attempt to deliver on vinyl the live frenzy that these garage legends were notorious for in person.
The album is highly regarded by Seeds aficionados, containing as it does exciting versions of band classics like ‘No Escape’ and ‘Up In Her Room’, as well as superlative new originals such as the punkoid ‘Satisfy You’, the latter a clear return to form after the flowery “Future” long-player. But most are unaware that the performances were actually cut live in the studio, with applause added afterward for release.
The original premise was for a Seeds show to be taped in front of an audience. Attended by the bands fan club, a live studio performance was recorded in February 1968, only to be scrapped at the last minute. The second disc of our deluxe vinyl reissue features this planned album in the form in which it was prepared for release, direct from the assembled master tape which has not been heard until now. The early version included the rare ‘Hubbly Bubbly Love’, which would not be re-recorded for “Raw & Alive”.
The new 2LP “Raw & Alive” is the fourth in the series of Seeds expanded editions and comes with a 8-page booklet, with notes from compiler Alec Palao that detail the history of the swansong of the original Seeds personnel, illustrated with unseen photos of the quartet on stage in their mid-60s heyday.

DESCRIPTION
“I Can’t Let Go” is the first ever compilation of Brooklyn singer Evie Sands' 60s recordings, featuring all 15 tracks from her first 8 singles on the vinyl version. The CD edition boasts a further 11 cuts, featuring her complete 45s from 1963-1970.
Singing from her pre-teens and first working in the studio at a tender age, Sands’ powerful and mesmerising voice belied her youth and featured on classic 45s cherished by soul and rock collectors alike, as well as girl group and femme pop aficionados.
After fledgling releases on ABC and Gold, Sands teamed up with the writing, arrangement and production team of Chip Taylor and Al Gorgoni in 1965 for a series of excellent, and frequently astounding records on the Blue Cat, Cameo and A&M labels, culminating in her much admired first LP. Along the way she cut the original (and definitive) versions of ‘Take Me For A Little While’, ‘I Can't Let Go’, northern soul floor filler ‘Picture Me Gone’, and the stately ‘Angel Of The Morning’, and watched on in disbelief as they all became hits for other artists. Finally achieving a sizeable hit of her own in 1969 with ‘Any Way That You Want Me’, she followed a short retirement in the early 70s with a well-received comeback LP, “Estate Of Mind” and a brace of US Top 50 hit singles.
Honing her production and writing skills along the way led to a veritable who's who of pop royalty queuing up to work with her and record her songs; Barbra Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Karen Carpenter, Dionne Warwick and later Missy Elliot all covered Sands' compositions and Elvis very nearly did too...
“I Can’t Let Go” has been compiled by Jai Rathbone with the full co-operation of Evie Sands who shares her thoughts and insights on this early part of her career. Lavishly illustrated this is a must-have purchase.
Marvel again (or for the very first time) at the versatility of one of the 60s best kept secrets; the rich, emotional and truly distinctive voice of Evie Sands.

‘The Pain Gets A Little Deeper’ was soul music’s equivalent of Frankie Lymon’s ‘Why Do Fools Fall In Love’ – young, vulnerable, heart-felt vocals that belied the singer’s years. It entered the charts in January 1966 and catapulted the 14 year-old Darrow Fletcher to fame in the R&B world, particularly in his home city of Chicago. Elton John has cited the recording as one of the best soul records he has ever heard. The ‘My Judgement Day’ flip demonstrated that there was depth to Darrow’s talent and a fruitful career followed.

DESCRIPTION
The sparsely-recorded Exits must be considered one of the greatest Los Angeles 60s soul vocal groups. Jimmy Conwell was their driving force, but all four singers contributed. Jimmy and fellow Exit Godoy Colbert, along with label owner Hank Graham co-writing both of these songs. Graham licensed ‘Another Sundown In Watts’ to Kapp records but with the issue being incredibly scarce compared to the demo, it may not have had a proper release. The song is hugely popular among both discerning northern soul fans and harmony lovers and now fetches over £1,000.
Coming up fast on the rails is the catchy dancer ‘I Don’t Want To Hear It’, issued on Cleveland’s Gemini label two years previously. It’s another mid-tempo harmony jam, ideal for today’s ageing dancers.

DESCRIPTION
Barbara Long’s exquisite vocals on ‘Take It From Me’ are backed by a heavenly backing group that was no doubt arranged and maybe featured Raynoma “Miss Ray” Gordy, Berry’s second wife and co-founder of Motown. This song was written by Eddie Singleton, Ray’s new partner who set up Shrine Records with her in Washington DC. The record came out on their sister label Jet Set, but sold poorly and is very sought after now.
Singleton wrote another beautiful harmony ballad, ‘Poor Loser’ for his main group the Cautions - issued on Shrine in 1966. It was their second single and got lost in the company’s implosion with most copies incinerated in record distributor Waxie Maxie’s fire. Its Northern soul flip makes it a £2,000 record on original.

DESCRIPTION
Released exclusively in Germany in March 1966, “Black Monk Time” by The Monks has become a cult classic -praised as a groundbreaking forerunner to punk and krautrock. Though the album was overlooked at the time, its bold sound and sharp lyrics have earned it lasting influence and critical acclaim.
The Monks were five American G.I.s stationed near Heidelberg, West Germany. Originally performing as a typical beat group under the name the 5 Torquays, they evolved into something far more radical. After discovering guitar feedback by accident and embracing a raw, percussive approach, they caught the attention of two German ad men—Walther Niemann and Karl Remy—who became their managers and helped reinvent their identity.
Dressed in monks' robes with tonsured hair and noose neckties, the band developed a confrontational, rhythm heavy sound. Nowhere is this clearer than in the album’s opening track, ‘Monk Time,’ which captures their entire aesthetic in under three minutes. A pounding, repetitive groove of bass and drums anchors the track, layered with distorted guitar bursts, percussive electric banjo, chaotic organ stabs, and unrestrained, shouted vocals. It’s a declaration of intent—urgent, jarring, and unforgettable.
Their sole studio album, produced by Jimmy Bowien and recorded in Cologne in late 1965, defied musical norms. From the explosive opener ‘Monk Time’ to the fierce ‘Complication,’ “Black Monk Time” rejected flower power for something more urgent—anger, humor, and innovation.
At the time, Polydor Records deemed the music too radical for American audiences, delaying its U.S. release. Despite its initial commercial failure, the album is now seen as a pivotal moment in rock history—loud, strange, and unapologetically ahead of its time. The Monks' story is as unlikely as their sound: five ex-soldiers and two ad executives creating one of the most daring records of the ‘60s. The band never sparked the revolution they hinted at, but decades later, “Black Monk Time” still resonates. This is your chance to experience the album that dared to be different - don’t miss it.

LAST TANGO IN PARIS

DESCRIPTION
A longtime favorite among Brazilian music collectors, Trio Ternura’s ‘A Gira’ blends mid-tempo grooves with percussive funk and soul in a way that feels effortlessly timeless. Originally released in 1973, the track was written by the group’s father and uncle as a heartfelt homage to the Candomblé deity - celebrating nature and spirituality.
Trio Ternura was a true family project, made up of three siblings with deep musical roots. According to them ‘A Gira’ captures “the dancing, the expression, the lyrics and musical relaxation – something very Brazilian.”
The B-side features the trio’s soulful interpretation of Gato Barbieri’s Last Tango in Paris, adding a mellow cinematic touch to this sought-after release.
After decades of eluding most collectors at a reasonable price - even the reissue from a few years ago has been fetching high prices - we're excited to make this incredible single available once again, cut at 45 RPM and remastered from the original tapes.

Step into the vibrant soundscape of the 1970s with “Change Up the Groove”, a hidden gem from Roy Ayers Ubiquity’s early Polygram years. Often overlooked in favor of Ayers’ bigger hits, this soulful album is a masterclass in jazz-funk fusion, capturing the essence of Ayers’ evolving style as he bridged the gap between his jazz roots and the rhythmic snap of the '70s funk revolution.
From the very first track, Ayers’ signature vibes take center stage, shimmering with emotion and groove. The album leans heavily into instrumental richness, with standout contributions from jazz greats like the legendary Bernard Purdie on drums. Strings weave in and out subtly, enhancing Ayers’ already deep and textured arrangements.
Highlights include the undeniable funk of ‘The Boogie Back’, a breakbeat favorite for crate-diggers and DJs (sampled by the likes of NWA, 2Pac, De La Soul…), and a lush, electrified rendition of ‘Feel Like Makin’ Love’ that glows with mellow soul. The title track ‘Change Up the Groove’ delivers the kind of tightly arranged, emotionally charged funk that defined the era.

Trio Mocotó is best known for being the powerhouse backing band behind Brazilian legend Jorge Ben during the height of his creative explosion in the early 1970s. But their contribution to music goes far beyond the supporting role—they were instrumental in shaping what would become known as samba funk, a vibrant fusion of traditional Brazilian rhythms with the groove and energy of American soul and funk music.
Formed in São Paulo’s iconic Jogral nightclub, Trio Mocotó—featuring Fritz Escovão, Joãozinho Parahyba, and Nereu Gargalo—began their musical journey as resident musicians, providing live accompaniment for a rotating cast of performers. It was here that Jorge Ben first encountered their raw talent and unmistakable chemistry, ultimately inviting them to join his band. The collaboration would go on to define an era.
In 1971, Trio Mocotó stepped into the spotlight with their debut solo album, “Muita Zorra! (...São Coisas Que Glorificam a Sensibilidade Atual).” The record made an immediate impact, climbing the charts with the infectious single ‘Coqueiro Verde’ and marking the start of a prolific period in the group’s career.
“Muita Zorra!” is a dazzling blend of styles—mixing the baroque funk and melodic sophistication of artists like Marcos Valle with the soulful spirit of Jorge Ben. Layered with elements of American funk, the album delivers a dynamic, rhythm-driven sound that still feels fresh today. The trio’s vocal harmonies are front and center, weaving through each track with warmth and richness, creating a captivating sonic tapestry that energizes every beat.
This album isn’t just a snapshot of a musical moment—it’s a cornerstone of Brazilian soul. A must-listen for fans of global grooves, vintage funk, and timeless Brazilian music, “Muita Zorra!” is once again available and ready to take its well-deserved place in your collection. DESCRIPTION
Ranil is undoubtedly the most unconventional figure among the greats of Amazonian cumbia, earning a well-deserved place alongside all the better-known iconic bands. He worked as a teacher, criollo guitarist, radio host, TV entrepreneur, and politician, but gained lasting fame as the founder of Ranil y Su Conjunto Tropical in the 1970s.
By 1968, around the same time Los Destellos were making waves in Lima, groups like Los Wembler’s de Iquitos and Juaneco y su Combo began electrifying cumbia in Iquitos. This new genre, dubbed Amazonian cumbia, exploded nationwide in 1973, thanks to hits by Juaneco y su Combo, Los Mirlos, and Los Wembler’s. The success these bands achieved spawned dozens of other groups from the Amazon. Ranil, always a visionary, recognized the movement’s potential and joined forces through his first single recorded on the Dinsa label in 1974. Unhappy with the contractual terms, he went on to found Producciones Llerena, the label on which he would release the rest of his discography.
Over the years, Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical featured guitarists like Límber Zumba and Luis Nigro, while Ranil remained the lead vocalist and bassist for group. Zumba and Nigro had already played with other regional bands and written songs for groups like Los Destellos and Los Mirlos.
This compilation offers a glimpse into the vast musical output Ranil created in the late 1970s and early 1980s, bringing together 14 tracks from the band’s 10 LPs. These records have always been hard to come by as, despite being recorded in Lima, they were distributed by Ranil from Iquitos. Psychedelia, rock fusion, cumbia, salsa, mambo, Amazonian folk… you’ll find all these flavors blended into the vibrant, jungle-rich sound Ranil crafted.

DESCRIPTION
"Paloma mensajera" (featuring members of New Juggler Sound / Laghonia) shows the shift that was taking place within Peruvian rock away from psych and hard rock which had predominated during the early 70s.
The style adopted by Grupo Amigos (and other bands and artists during this period) highlights the influence of soft rock, UK, US and Latin American folk rock and, above all, the desire to keep the melodic greatness of The Beatles alive. The positive reception albums by artists such as We All Together, Telegraph Avenue and Zulu garnered between 1972 and 1975, marked a change of paradigm and in preferences within the Peruvian rock scene. Eclecticism gained new ground, to the detriment of the sectarian and orthodox, while melody grew more present and visible, moving away from the progressive experimentation that typified underground Peruvian rock up to the beginning of the 70s.
For their first single on MAG, included on this reissue, the band adopted a formula in which Beatles harmonies converged symmetrically with folk motifs. ‘Dirty Girl' was a hit on the radio. A full album followed but only a fairly small number of copies of the album were pressed, which seems to have been the main reason for omitting it from the historical accounts of Peruvian rock music from the late 90s onwards.
In "Paloma mensajera" all compositions were penned by the group, after several years during which cover versions were a staple. Some of the musical resources that the band had at their disposal in terms of composition and arrangements are striking and even surprising, considering that they were a debut band, whose members were under the age of 20. The arrangements included the clever use of a Moog synthesizer which had just arrived at the MAG studio.
The success achieved by the Beatles tribute performances played by the members of Grupo Amigos for decades have eclipsed the songs that Edmundo, Andrés Da Ros and Simón Ames composed with youthful enthusiasm and energy between 1972 and 1973 to the point where they have almost been forgotten. This re-release of "Paloma mensajera" should help rectify this major injustice. It includes bonus tracks and extensive liner notes.

DESCRIPTION
1985 was a landmark year for punk rock in the Basque country, and possibly for the whole of Spain. Punk merged with the Basque Radical Rock (Rock Radikal Vasco or RRV) movement, although this was not necessarily always the case. For instance, Eskorbuto invariably kept their distance from the movement and everything related to it.
Hardship was part and parcel of Eskorbuto's life and musical career. All their albums were recorded in the shortest time imaginable, partly due to tight budgets (studios were expensive, labels were close-fisted), and partly because Josu and Jualma needed to spend the money on other things…
When it came to recording “Anti Todo”, Eskorbuto stuck to what they did best: hitting the studio with as much raw energy, provocation, inspiration, and natural talent as possible. It was their best record and we have to ask: what would Eskorbuto have been capable of if they had more time, a bigger budget, and tighter control? The song ‘Tamara’ was practically composed on the spot in the studio in less than two recording days, as was much of ‘Ha llegado el momento’.
The experienced sound technician did an outstanding job, but a new remastering for this rerelease has given the album the richer, more vibrant sound it always deserved. We can once again enjoy the urgency, simplicity, and rage of this refreshed “Anti Todo”, a true classic in our musical history, originally released in 1985 at Eskorbuto’s peak of their creativity and energy.
This edition of the album includes a large poster and insert with notes.

The golden age of Caracas pop started in 1965. It replaced the wave of cloyingly romantic song writing as fresh talents leant into richer and more complex styles: folk-rock, psychedelia, soul, hard blues, symphonic pop, Latin rock etc. Singer-songwriters, experimental electric guitars and jam sessions all appeared on the scene, creating music that became increasingly refined and free. The industry took a while to catch on to this new trend and leave behind the teen idols and dream lifestyles.
By the late 60s, there was a long list of new bands in the capital city. Young people finally found their voice.

DESCRIPTION
Abelardo Carbonó, the godfather of champeta, was born in 1948 in Ciénaga, a small town between Santa Marta and Cartagena, Colombia. He started playing guitar when he was eight or nine, just playing along with his father. His family moved to Barranquilla in 1959. Upon his arrival, he quickly went to become a police cadet as it was pretty much all the city had to offer him in terms of earning one's life.
At the turn of the 80s, Abelardo had almost two decades of being in the police, a job he "wasn't very good at". With his brothers Jafeth (bass) and Abel (solo guitar), he progressively formed what was to become the nucleus of the bands to come, developing their signature: a sharp guitar, a strong bass and a choir that only brothers' voices can deliver. The tropical pop sound, the groaning voice, the drum kit, the mix of rockish and tropical guitar that one would hear later in Abelardo's work, were already visible in his personal way of playing Caribbean music in these early days.
Although tracks like 'A otro perro con ese hueso' may not be exactly developing the same kind of sound, there was already a resemblance in terms of format and arrangement. The vallenato cajón drum, a traditional feature one would rarely consider beyond vallenato circles, was used here and would be used extensively by Abelardo in various contexts. With its childish voices drowned in reverb, the swinging electric bass contrasting with the acoustic guitar, and the funny lyrics about a man who promises a lot as the choir rejects his affirmations, the tune stood out of a 12-song compilation released by Sonolux and gained Abelardo's band attention from the music industry.
Other tracks like 'Quiero a mi gente' and 'Schallcarri' seem to testify once again that Fela Kuti's "Shakara" had a huge impact on the musicians from the coast; the West African and French Caribbean influence became more and more obvious in the band's work, despite Abelardo claiming that he wasn't listening to radio, nor looking for records. In fact, the most decisive influence was the African and Afro Caribbean one: it ranged from the Super Negro Bantous to South African music, the 45s from Kenya and of course Congolese music, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Haitian music, French West Indies... Funk and pop were also important, just as vallenato, cumbia and porro to name a few.
For several years, Abelardo enjoyed the savoir faire and experience of the best studios around and worked with producers such as the great Eduardo Dávila, some sort of costeño Lee Perry, out of which came out memorable sessions with collaborations by legends like Michi Sarmiento and several artists from the Dolcey Gutiérrez Orchestra. The groove was the law, and what a groove!
In his albums for Felito, Abelardo recorded such gems as 'Negra Kulenge', 'Palenque' or 'Carolina', magnified by a great sound and a unique mix. But, for some reason he cannot explain, the follow up to those albums was not, as one could expect, immediate. He recalls having trouble to handle the destiny of his band and actively promote it to find gigs. Instead he even went to the Guajira region as a policeman or to work for the coal mine, supposedly to teach music in the mining company's schools there.
The best of this boundless artist is yet to come. Europe and the rest of the world is finally about to discover the talent of this kind of Colombian Tom Zé. A man representing the psychedelic yet groovy side of the Caribbean musical world, one of the best kept secrets of Colombian music.
