DESCRIPTION

Soul Jazz Records’ new 10th anniversary edition of their long-out-of-print Punk 45: There Is No Such Thing As Society.

This is a one-off limited-edition heavyweight special- edition cyan coloured vinyl pressing + download code.

The album charts the rise of underground punk and post-punk in the UK from 1977-81.

This album is fully remastered and relicensed and includes five new tracks from 23 Skidoo, Notsensibles, Pretty Boy Floyd, The Astronauts and The Impossible Dreamers.

The album is a collection of seminal, classic, obscure and rare punk and post-punk singles from the likes of The Mekons, Johnny Moped, The Killjoys, The Rings and many more which all chart the rise of independent music and Do It Yourself culture that exploded in the wake of punk and during the years of Britain under Margaret Thatcher.

The album comes complete with text, biographies on each of the bands, exclusive photos and original record artwork and is newly available as a limited-edition super-loud, super-heavy double gatefold-sleeve vinyl edition complete with full sleeve-notes plus download.

"Famous punk bands such as The Sex Pistols and The Clash grabbed headlines as they captured the spirit of discontent in mid-Seventies Britain. Meanwhile they inspired thousands of teenagers to learn the very rudiments of music, shout about one thing or another and, if they got their act together, record a single or two before disintegrating. Punk 45: There Is No Such Thing As Society proves what diamonds in the rough those singles so often were." The Times ****

"A fine balance between the seminal, the obscure and the downright arcane, nigh-on essential" Record Collector

"What makes this compilation so engaging is that the songs evoke images of a '70s Britain behest by strikes, rolling blackouts, Margaret Thatcher, and general disillusionment with the establishment alongside the genuine musical ingenuity and drive of the artists featured. By successfully capturing this spirit of discontent and the subsequent creativity that nurtured it, this collection is a brilliant snapshot of the rise of U.K. punk and post-punk and the explosive cultural shift that followed." All Music

"Wide and smart collection of the fascinating scene ... A companion piece to a substantial and enlightening first volume" Sydney Morning Herald

******** "Witty, wonky compilation" Uncut

“Rarities and underground gems” Le Monde, France

“Pure energy” l’Express, France

“This compilation is yet again a wonderful collection of the cultishly revered...” Neue Züricher Zeitung, Switzerland “A great journey into a world in which music represented attitude – attitude and risk.” Westzeit, Germany
