DESCRIPTION
Bull & The Matadors have long been a staple on the northern soul scene. Their sides for Chicago's Toddlin' Town Records have lit up dancefloors at all-nighters for decades. Their biggest hit came in the summer of 1968 with "The Funky Judge". Later that year, they cut a follow-up tune called "Where Did The Judge Go". Sadly, the label moved on from the group before it was ever released. Secret Stash Records is proud to present the first-ever pressing of this lost funky northern soul gem! The limited edition, hand-numbered 250-unit pressing features The Funky Judge on the flip.

Back In My Arms
Can't Help But Love You

DESCRIPTION
Avis would see two releases in total, a Ray Sharp solo record (AVIS-1002) but more relative to our story, The Ebonys - Back In My Arms b/w I Can't Help But Love You (AVIS-1001). Recorded in 1968 and released in 1969 the record failed to chart, or maybe get radio play at all. This was the very first release for Clarence, David, James, and Jennifer as The Ebonys. Written and produced by Ray and arranged by the late, great Roland Chambers, the single seems to have long been forgotten. Perhaps it was overlooked, or overshadowed by the very successful career The Ebonys would go on to have at PIR, under Gamble & Huff. In 1971, The Ebonys' single You're The Reason Why was in the ten on the U.S. R&B Charts, a first for PIR. Fifty-five years later, after a seemingly endless effort by Raymond Waterhouse to relive some of that late 1960s glory with later bands like Waterhouse, Live A Little, Profit, The Four Accents, The Ebonys original reel-to-reel master tapes from the Avis label sessions have been found and remastered and sound as good today as they did back in 1969. In that original session for Ray at Sigma Sound Studios with Joe Tarsia doing the mix, there were three songs done in total, which will finally see a proper release on a 7" / 45rpm.

The few LPs and 45s released on his label are legendarily hard to find, let alone the condition… Some of them were issued under the name Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical. They recorded this hypnotic and percussive version of ‘Sonido amazónico’ that was released as an LP-only track.
We're now pleased to release it for the first time as a 45, to the delight of DJs and 7”s collectors.
On the flipside we find Los Wembler’s de Iquitos, responsible for some of the most popular songs of the psychedelic cumbia genre, including the outstanding ‘Sonido Amazónico’.

They are boogie back once again with this double header of finest Neo-Boogie sounds, a neo-soul flavoured pearl, doing business as unusual, most serious and extra ordinary by the grey eminenz of London Streetsoul himself Ernie McKone aka „The Great Ernesto“ and his family affair:

DESCRIPTION
EVERYBODY LOVES THE SUNSHINE is more than a classic.
It is “THE” summer anthem, one of the most covered and sampled Soul tunes by Roy Ayers and the Ubiquity family. This vinyl re-release has been eagerly awaited by music lovers worldwide.
This version was originally recorded as a cover version, produced by Soulciety Records for their label band project named The Soulsociety.
The performance was recorded with the original songwriter and producer of the song, Mr. legendary vibes controller and Soul superstar Roy Ayers.
This recording follows the original 70s feel and instrumentation of the 1976 version, but this time also features Roy Ayers prominently on lead vocals.
Another big difference compared to all other versions by Roy and Ramp is the fact that this version is arranged and produced as a midtempo track.
It will fit perfectly into any DJs set with a focus on Soul, Funk or Hip Hop.
For the first time ever, this classic is now available on a SEDSOULCIETY RECORDINGS 7” vinyl with a full cover artwork, including the previously unreleased instrumental version on the flip side with added extra vibes by the master himself.

HELLO, I LOVE YOU

DESCRIPTION
This is one of the most obscure singles ever released in Venezuela in the 60s. It followed the global triumph of The Beatles that made the wave of beat groups get bigger and bigger and lots of new bands emerged, some of which would last while others would definitively go into oblivion, and a small number of them would leave at least one recording that today is considered a highly valuable collector's item. This is the case of The Pets.
The band’s only album, released in 1967, shows perfectly what the influences of the Venezuelan nueva ola (new wave) scene were at the time, including versions of The Doors, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Paul Revere & The Riders… as well as the outstanding original ‘El entierro de un hombre rico que murió de hambre’, one of the finest garage tunes to emerge from Latin America that was also released as a 7” single. Their stunning take on The Doors’ ‘Hello, I Love You’ takes the B side of this mega scarce 45. A garage DJs favorite!

DRUG STORY (Part 1)

DRUG STORY (Part 2)

DESCRIPTION
Joe Bataan's extensive discography was expanded in 2022 with the release of some old recordings from the King of Latin Soul that had never been previously published.
After the success of his album "Riot!" (1968), Bataan had easy access to a studio whenever inspiration struck to record a new song sketch or even a complete track. Sometimes, he would finish the recording entirely and offer it in its final version to Fania for release. This usually worked, although on some occasions, the song was rejected.
In the case of ‘Drug Story,’ the track was recorded without a clear final purpose, even though Bataan hoped it would become part of an album. When the Fania executives heard the result, they immediately rejected it, thinking it promoted drug use. The tapes were filed away and lost in oblivion until they ended up in a thrift store in New York. From there, they were rescued by a Latin music specialist and later sold, eventually making their way to the Vampisoul archives.
The song was finally released in its entirety in 2022 on the LP "Drug Story" by Now Again. It features a long, slow vocal intro that evolves into a more uptempo track with two very distinct parts, to the point that it almost feels like two different songs. It transports us to the best moment of Joe Bataan's career, with all of his classic ingredients, delivering a track as good as his most famous songs. Bataan himself takes on the lead vocals and piano, Bobby Rodríguez handles the flute, sax, and bass, Pete ‘Choki’ Quintero plays the drums, and William Howes Jr. plays the electric guitar with wah-wah effects.
We thought that the song deserved to be released as a single as well, and that its structure was perfect for each side to have a separate identity. So here it is, for the first time on a 45, ‘Drug Story,’ the lost track by Joe Bataan. Pure Latin soul, recorded at the peak of the artist's career!

This dynamic release features two explosive remixes, Vindaloo and Maccheroni, both crafted with Mophono’s signature "Skip on Beat" style and capped with killer drum break outro tools for DJs and beat enthusiasts alike. Both tracks are reimaginings of songs originally featured on the first volume of the Madlib Invazion Music Library Series, giving them new life with Mophono’s innovative production techniques and gritty funk aesthetic. Known for his love of retro funk and hard-hitting rhythms, Mophono didn’t stop at just one remix—he eagerly tackled two distinct reinterpretations of the same project, showcasing his versatility and respect for Whitefield’s original compositions. The Artists Behind the Magic Mophono (a.k.a. DJ Centipede) has long been a driving force in the experimental funk and breakbeat scenes, blending retro influences with cutting-edge production. His passion for gritty, percussion-driven tracks is on full display here, cementing his status as one of the Bay Area’s most influential producers. J.J.
